Arab and Persian World
From the beginning, music and artists from the countries of the Middle East and Northern Africa have been central to the program of the Pierre Boulez Saal. In 2018–19, the Arabic Music Days are once again the centerpiece, a weekend in September curated by Iraqi oud virtuoso Naseer Shamma that brings together music, visual art, and film. The Shanbehzadeh Ensemble presents Persian music and dance, and Tunesian oud player Anouar Brahem will perform with his quartet. Returning regulars include Dima Orsho and Kinan Azmeh.
This hall will have its own personality
It will be a home for contemporary music, for chamber music of all centuries, and it will be—I hope—the home in Europe for Arab and Iranian music.
