Concerts with Daniel Barenboim

In the 2019–20 season, Daniel Barenboim remains the Pierre Boulez Saal’s center of artistic gravity, appearing as pianist, chamber musician, conductor, and mentor. As part of the Beethoven Year celebrating the composer’s 250th birthday, he dedicates three major concert cycles to the performance of the complete piano sonatas, violin sonatas—in a duo with Pinchas Zukerman—and piano trios—together with Michael Barenboim and Kian Soltani. Leading the Boulez Ensemble, Maestro Barenboim conducts works by Bartók, Shostakovich, Carter, Francesconi, and Pierre Boulez.

Barenboim or the Power of Music

In her documentary celebrating the conductor and pianist’s 75th birthday in November 2017, director Sabine Scharnagel chronicled the major events and encounters of his long artistic career. The film, first seen on BR Fernsehen, also includes a chapter on the opening of the Pierre Boulez Saal and the Barenboim-Said Akademie.
