Concerts with Daniel Barenboim
As in the two previous seasons, Daniel Barenboim in 2018–19 remains the center of artistic creativity at the Pierre Boulez Saal, appearing as pianist, chamber musician, conductor, and mentor. In the first part of a two-year Beethoven cycle, he takes on the composer’s piano sonatas. With Michael Barenboim and Kian Soltani, he performs Mozart’s complete piano trios. And together with the Boulez Ensemble, Daniel Barenboim presents the world premieres of newly commissioned works by Matthias Pintscher and Jörg Widmann.
In her documentary celebrating the conductor and pianist’s 75th birthday in November 2017, director Sabine Scharnagel chronicled the major events and encounters of his long artistic career. The film, first seen on BR Fernsehen, also includes a chapter on the opening of the Pierre Boulez Saal and the Barenboim-Said Akademie.
