A different Chaconne

Johann Sebastian Bach

Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin are among the most celebrated works in all of classical music. The chaconne from the D minor Partita in particular has captured the imagination not just of audiences but also of composers through the centuries. Mandolinist Avi Avital is joined by a group of acclaimed soloists in an exploration of different arrangements of Bach’s work, including adaptations by Brahms, Busoni, Schumann, and Mendelssohn. To close the program, violinst Guy Braunstein will perform the original chaconne.
