As soloists and members of various ensembles, hornist Radek Baborák and pianist Denis Kozhukhin have long been among the Pierre Boulez Saal’s regular guests. They open their concert, for which they are joined by violinist Dalibor Karvay, with Schumann’s romantic Fantasy Pieces. The remainder of the program focuses on horn music of the 20th century: Hindemith’s 1939 Sonata, one of the defining works of the horn repertoire, is heard alongside pieces by legendary French hornist Georges Barboteu and British composer and suffragette Ethel Smyth, among others.
