Following his highly successful Pierre Boulez Saal debut in November 2019, saxophone virtuoso Charles Lloyd returns with two different programs. Together with the Indian tabla master Zakir Hussain and percussionist Eric Harland, Lloyd formed the trio Sangam in 2004—the group’s sound is an intriguing blend of jazz and elements of classical Indian music. Its Berlin concert marks the three musicians’ only joint appearance in Europe this year. Lloyd’s Chapel Trio, which first performed together in 2018 at the Coates Chapel in San Antonio, Texas, now makes its European debut. He is joined in this formation by guitar legend Bill Frisell (with whom he has collaborated for a number of years) and bassist Thomas Morgan.
