Michael Wood

Lecture

Approximate running time: 1h 30m without intermission

Literary and cultural critic, and friend of the late Edward Said, Michael Wood opens the Edward W. Said Days with his lecture surveying counterpoint as a musical and literary term. Framed by the Tallis Scholars–whose concert explores the ecstatic heights of 15th and 16th century counterpoint through works by Byrd, Desprez, Allegro and others–the evening comes to a close with Tallis’s monumental 40-part motet Spem in alium.

Conversation in English. Simultaneous German translation will be available, with headphones provided. A valid photo ID (or alternatively €50) must be presented as security deposit.
