The Italian ensemble Europa Galante, founded in 1990 by Fabio Biondi, is known for its performances of instrumental, vocal, and operatic repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries. At the Pierre Boulez Saal, the musicians are joined by Ian Bostridge, one of today’s most stylistically versatile tenors, in works by Claudio Monteverdi and Henry Purcell that mark the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque era, including the dramatic madrigal Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda. Also heard are instrumental pieces by Carlo Farina and Dario Castello.
