Music by Jörg Widmann and others
Two violins, a viola, and a cello that come together as a quartet—Goethe famously compared this setup to “four intelligent people conversing with one another.” Jörg Widmann’s Jagdquartett (“Hunt Quartet”), on the other hand, portrays a wild chase, with bows almost literally flying through the air. Before long, the hunters become the hunted… Taking Widmann’s work as a starting point, the four instruments explore possibilities beyond the scope of a cultured conversation.
