SCHUBERT WEEKEND
PRE-CONCERT LECTURE
The Schubert Weekend kicks off with Hartmut Höll (pianist and Rector of the Karlsruhe Musikhochschule) and Richard Stokes (Royal Academy of Music), who will discuss Schubert’s songs and their performance, in place of Graham Johnson, who is ill. The conversation will be held mostly in German.
Benefit from the Weekend Pass for the Thomas Hampson Schubert Weekend: access to the entire program and an invitation to the artist lunch on Saturday.
18:30 - 19:15, Pierre Boulez Saal
The Schubert Weekend opens with baritone Matthias Goerne presenting the composer’s first great lieder cycle, Die schöne Müllerin, on poems by Wilhelm Müller. He is joined by his longtime accompanist, Alexander Schmalcz.
Due to a prolonged illness recovery, Thomas Hampson unfortunately had to withdraw from his recital scheduled for this date. As originally announced, he will lead the public workshop on Saturday, January 13, and he will also participate in the pre-concert talks on January 12 and 13.
