Founded in 1991, the Shanbehzadeh Ensemble—which today consists of Saeid Shanbehzadeh, his wife, Sheida, and his son, Naghib —is one of the best-known music groups from Southern Iran. The ensemble’s rhythmically and melodically rich music embodies the life and culture of the Bushehr region, but also incorporates many influences from Arabic, African, and Indian music. The three musicians, who regularly collaborate with colleagues from the worlds of jazz and classical music, now bring their dynamic artistry to the Pierre Boulez Saal.
This performance will run approximately 90 minutes without intermission.
