The Soldier's Tale
The soldier Joseph trades his violin for a magical book that makes him fabulously wealthy. He can now buy anything he desires and quickly becomes the envy of everyone around him. But Joseph is still dissatisfied, and on his restless quest for happiness finds himself repeatedly confronted by the devil… Inspired by Stravinsky’s idea for The Soldier’s Tale to be “read, played, and danced” by a traveling theater troupe, director Dan Tanson has reimagined the piece in a staging tailormade for the Pierre Boulez Saal’s 360-degree setting, with the action and characters propelled forward by the music. Following its successful premiere in February 2019, the production returns for four more performances.
