Visit one of Berlin's most exciting cultural projects. Since 2016, an extraordinary Music Academy in Berlin, the Barenboim-Said Akademie, has begun teaching young musicians, mainly from the Middle East and North Africa, invited here on scholarships, in the spirit of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, that was founded by Daniel Barenboim and Edward W. Said.
The Academy is housed in the former stage depot of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, a designated landmark building. The Pierre Boulez Saal, a new 700-seat concert hall designed by Frank Gehry, is the public face of the Academy. The world-famous American architect has donated his work as a contribution to the project.
