Theater and Music
Different combinations of words, sounds, and images are on display in several projects during the Pierre Boulez Saal’s 2018–19 season. Last November, the Berlin-based band Einstürzende Neubauten already presented the final performances of their touching musical memorial Lament, commemorating the end of the First World War. In Breath & Hammer, clarinetist David Krakauer and pianist-composer Kathleen Tagg blend the music of some of their close companions from around the world and their own compositions with live visuals by Jesse Gilbert into an immersive performance in a spatial arrangement specifically designed for the Pierre Boulez Saal. Soprano Anna Prohaska and violinist Isabelle Faust bring dramatic life to György Kurtág’s aphoristic Kafka Fragments together with actor Dominique Horwitz––seen last season at the Pierre Boulez Saal with another Kafka program––who will read from the author’s works.
