The performance of the complete masses of Renaissance master Josquin des Prez in July 2022 marked a milestone in the Pierre Boulez Saal’s presentation of Early Music. The tradition continues in the 2022–23 season, with several renowned ensembles and solo artists exploring a wide range of compositions from 14-century ars nova to the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. In der Saison 2022/23 wird diese Tradition fortgesetzt: Eine Reihe namhafter Ensembles und Solokünstler:innen widmen sich einem weitgespannten Repertoire, das von Kompositionen der Ars nova aus dem 14. Jahrhundert bis zu den Werken Johann Sebastian Bachs reicht.
In a number of concerts this season, Early Music is juxtaposed with works from many different eras, creating new perspectives on well-known compositions.
Following last year’s French theme, the Barocktage festival of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden this season focuses on music from the other “birthplace” of Baroque music—Italy. At the Pierre Boulez Saal, the Berlin Baroque Soloists and the ensemble Le Poème Harmonique perform works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Venetian Antonio Vivaldi, including his large-scale psalm setting Nisi Dominus.
