Introduction
In English with simultaneous German translation
The literature of Black feminists has revolutionary potential, but their perspectives are yet to be afforded the patronage, recognition, and critical reception that white male perspectives in the German literary world receive as a matter of course. Arguably the most highly acclaimed Black German lyricist, May Ayim, only found appreciation within the German-speaking context after she had become well-known in the U.S. How Black feminist lyricists and authors produce art while navigating the structures that have marginalized and excluded them is the subject of this talk.
