George Frideric Handel
Suite from the opera Ariodante HWV 33
Music from the operas of George Frideric Handel is at the center of the program performed by members of the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin together with students of the Barenboim-Said Akademie. Countertenor Bejun Mehta explores the many facets of the character of Julius Caesar—from idealistic ruler to desperate lover—in four virtuoso arias from the eponymous work, which are complemented by instrumental suites from Terpsicore and Ariodante. Two Concerti grossi by Handel’s contemporaries Pietro Locatelli and Giuseppe Valentini complete the program.
