Sonata for Violin and Piano in G major
Long before Mozart, composers wrote works for violin and piano, but he was the first to treat the two instruments as equal partners. Alina Ibragimova and Cédric Tiberghien perform his 1784 B-flat-major sonata, followed by 20th-century works by John Cage and George Crumb. Rounding out the program is the supremely Romantic violin sonata by Belgian composer Guillaume Lekeu, a student of César Franck, who died at the age of 24.
