Leonid Desyatnikov
Dichterliebe und Leben – Vocal Cycle on Poems by Nikolay Oleynikov and Daniil Kharms

Tenor Bogdan Volkov, who trained as a member of the Young Artist Program at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theater and was most recently heard in Berlin in Prokofiev’s Betrothal in a Monastery at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, makes his Pierre Boulez Saal debut performing Russian songs. The program juxtaposes works from the late 19th and late 20th centuries: together with pianist Pavel Nebolsin, Volkov performs songs by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Leonid Desyatnikov’s song cycle Dichterliebe und Leben (“The Poet’s Love and Life”) composed in 1989.
