sur Incises
When Berlin’s new concert hall opened its doors on March 4, 2017, one of the pieces on the program was Pierre Boulez’s sur Incises. Now this landmark work by the hall’s spiritual patron returns to raise the curtain on its third season, once again performed by the Boulez Ensemble and its founder, Daniel Barenboim. Schumann’s highly expressive Piano Quintet, written in 1842 and dedicated to his pianist wife, Clara, and Webern’s 1938 String Quartet, the composer’s last work to be published in his lifetime, complete the program.
Approximate running time: 1h 45m with one intermission
