Pierrot lunaire Op. 21
Arnold Schoenberg
Chamber Symphony for 15 Solo Instruments Op. 9
One hundred and fifty years ago on September 13, Arnold Schoenberg was born in Vienna. Zubin Mehta, Mojca Erdmann, and the Boulez Ensemble celebrate the composer with two groundbreaking works that embody the transition from late Romanticism to musical Modernism. The revolutionary Pierrot lunaire—which premiered just a few kilometers from the Pierre Boulez Saal in the fall of 1912—is followed by the equally influential Chamber Symphony of 1906.
