Sonata for Solo Violin Sz 117
Yehudi Menuhin, dedicatee of Bartók’s late Sonata for Solo Violin, compared its opening movement to a free translation of the famous Chaconne from Bach’s D-minor Partita into a Hungarian idiom—and considered the sonata the most important work for solo violin written since Bach. On the heels of his duo recital in November, Christian Tetzlaff now brings the two composers face to face in this solo appearance.
