When Kris Davis and Craig Taborn first met in a recording studio four years ago, they immediately realized they were musical soulmates—a discovery since shared with audiences in a string of joint concerts. Following their duo set at the Pierre Boulez Saal, Davis will lead a quintet to present the European premiere of another extraordinary collaboration in the concert’s second half: her live accompaniment of Letters, an hour-long silent film by Bulgarian photographer and filmmaker Mimi Chakarova. Chakarova’s work is a visual meditation on “what is both beautiful and ugly in our world today—issues of social justice, the environment and global warming, kindness and compassion, and the impact of technology on human relationships.”
