Emmanuel Pahud, principal flutist of the Berliner Philharmoniker, returns to the Pierre Boulez Saal with an extraordinary program centered around Johann Sebastian Bach and Luciano Berio. Bach’s A-minor Partita and Berio’s Sequenza provide the musical landmarks, which are complemented by compositions of their respective contemporaries. In addition to original works by Varèse, Carter, Takemitsu, and Widmann, Pahud also performs Les Folies d’Espagne by French viol virtuoso Marin Marais, in a transcription for solo flute.
