Matthias Pintscher and the Ensemble intercontemporain, regular guests at the Pierre Boulez Saal, perform a program that explores different aspects of musical motion in space: in Pintscher’s own sonic eclipse, the sound spheres of the solo instruments and the ensemble slowly converge before finally merging. Lachenmann’s Mouvement, “music made out of dead movements,” according to the composer, employs mechanical “pseudoactivity” to bring the musical means of expression to a standstill. The program opens with Mark Andre’s searching wohin (“where to?”) for harp and ensemble, a piece premiered by the Ensemble intercontemporain last year.
