World Premiere – Commissioned by the Ensemble intercontemporain and the SWR Donaueschinger Musiktage
The annual appearances of the Ensemble intercontemporain, founded in 1976 by Pierre Boulez, have been among the program highlights of the Pierre Boulez Saal ever since the hall’s opening. Led by its music director Matthias Pintscher, the group once again presents a panorama of new and recent works— including the world premiere of Beat Furrer’s Clarinet Concerto and Pintscher’s Uriel, written in 2011–12. In February, the ensemble returns in a smaller chamber-music lineup as part of the second Pierre Boulez Biennale.
Approximate running time: 1h 15m without intermission
