Johann Sebastian Bach
Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord in G major BWV 1019

From trio to duo: As instrument makers improved the construction of the harpsichord in the early 18th century, Johann Sebastian Bach took advantage of these changes to elevate the role of the keyboard in his sonatas from that of mere accompaniment to an equal partner of the soloist—thereby creating a new, modern duo setup from the traditional trio sonata. Isabelle Faust and Kristian Bezuidenhout are joined by Kristin van der Goltz in a program that combines works of both types, including a sonata by Dresden violin virtuoso Johann Georg Pisendel long attributed to Bach.

Approximate running time: 2h with one intermission
