The two screenings of recent works by Sudanese filmmakers Suhaib Gasmelbari and Amjad Abu Alala, originally scheduled as part of the Arabic Music Days, unfortunately cannot take place due to space restrictions in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. The 2019 film, winner of the Panorama Audience Award at last year’s Berlinale festival, follows four Sudanese cinephiles in their attempt to re-open an old movie theater—while at the same time offering revealing insights into Sudanese (film) history.
