FLEUR BARRON & KUNAL LAHIRY
The Power and the Glory: Songs by Mahler, Weill, Messiaen, Montsalvatge and others
© Courtney Ruckman
How can a song recital capture diverse voices from around the world? In their Pierre Boulez Saal program, mezzo-soprano Fleur Barron and pianist Kunal Lahiry explore a wide range of repertoire that highlights music’s universality, weaving together works from Europe, Latin America, and Asia. The two artists, who share dual Asian and Western heritages, explore identity, belonging, and the echoes of global colonial history through works by Mahler, Weill, Ravel, Xavier Montsalvatge, Ilse Weber, Kamala Sankaram, and others, alongside traditional Chinese songs.
