Art songs explore universal themes such as love, longing, or loneliness—but, as in many other fields, they mostly do so from a male perspective. The song cycle This Be Her Verse, commissioned by Golda Schultz from composer Kathleen Tagg and librettist Lila Palmer, stands as a contemporary counterpart. Together with Jonathan Ware, the South-African soprano also performs works by leading female composers of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Approximate running time: 1h without intermission
