The second concert in the Lied und Lyrik series, curated by pianist Julius Drake, is dedicated to one of the most productive artistic friendships of the 20th century: after meeting in Berlin in 1930, Bertolt Brecht and Hanns Eisler maintained a close relationship throughout their lives. Together with Drake, baritone Holger Falk explores Eisler’s Brecht settings collected in his Hollywood Songbook—music written in 1942–43 during the composer’s Californian exile, where he and Brecht had reunited after fleeing Germany. A selection of Brecht’s poems will be read by an actor.
