In his Pierre Boulez Saal debut, Ildar Abdrazakov adds another perspective to this season’s focus on Russian song. Joined by his piano partner Mzia Bachtouridze, he takes on Shostakovich’s 1974 Michelangelo Suite and selected works by Modest Mussorgsky, including the Songs and Dances of Death. The cycle will be heard again in December in its mezzo-soprano version, offering a rare opportunity to experience this deeply moving work in two different ways.
