The Japanese Quartet Amabile joins composer and clarinetist Jörg Widmann for the second installment of his survey of the clarinet quintet’s history, presenting works from four centuries over the course of two con secutive seasons. After opening the series with Mozart in January, Widmann now performs Carl Maria von Weber’s virtuoso Clarinet Quintet, written between 1811 and 1815. The Quartet Amabile will also be heard with works by Webern and Japanese composer Akira Miyoshi, who passed away in 2013, as well as Widmann’s own Jagdquartett and (in an expanded lineup) his 180 beats per minute.
