Johannes Brahms composed his only song cycle on poems from Ludwig Tieck’s Die schöne Magelone. For Brigitte Fassbaender, the work has long held a special place in the repertoire, even after the end of her performing career as a singer. Joined by baritone Konstantin Krimmel and pianist Wolfram Rieger, she now presents these songs in their literary context, reading excerpts from Tieck’s tale of love, longing, and chivalry.
