Trio élégiaque No. 2 in D minor Op. 9
“It is original, absolutely full of passion,” Clara Schumann wrote about her husband’s Third Piano Trio, composed in 1851, a piece “which sweeps one away to the wildest depths.” Gidon Kremer, Giedrė Dirvanauskaitė, and Georgijs Osokins pair it with Rachmaninoff’s Trio élégiaque No. 2, written a mere 40 years later and dedicated by the composer to the “great artist” Tchaikovsky. Schumann’s famous Violin Sonata and 15-year-old Mieczysław Weinberg’s Nocturne for Violin and Piano round out the program.
