Black Angels – Thirteen Images from the Dark Land for electric String Quartet

It all started with George Crumb’s Black Angels: when violinist David Harrington heard the piece played on the radio in 1973, he immediately decided to create an ensemble to perform this music—the Kronos Quartet was born. Approaching its 50th anniversary, the U.S-based ensemble is at the center of activity during this year's Quartet Week. Crumb’s groundbreaking composition concludes a program that also features works by Franghiz Ali-Zadeh, Sofia Gubaidulina, Michael Gordon, and Terry Riley—a small sampling of the many pieces written for the Kronos Quartet over the past five decades.

We regret that the Kronos Quartet had to cancel its two concerts during this season's Quartet Week due to current travel restrictions. A new date will be announced later.

Approximate running time: 1h 45m with one intermission
