George Enescu
Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 3 in A minor Op. 25 «Dans le caractère populaire roumain»
After a successful series of concerts in the U.S., violinist Leonidas Kavakos makes his first appearance at the Pierre Boulez Saal with pianist Enrico Pace.
Kavakos will perform several works that engage in an intense dialogue with folk music. References to Csárdás in Brahms, to Romanian folk music in Enescu or to traditional Greek melodies in Skalkottas all express a deeply ambiguous desire – for the simple in the midst of great complexity, for the organically formed within the consciously constructed.
Approximate running time: 1h 45m with one intermission
