“The limits of my language mean the limits of my world.”
—Ludwig Wittgenstein
Once again, we are witnessing a period of waves of migration—from place to place, from culture to culture, from one language to another that is often not understood. In this theatrical concert project for children and their parents, a group of actors and musicians, including students of the Barenboim-Said Akademie, explore the utopian reality of the invention of language. Like J.R.R. Tolkien, who used invented languages in The Lord of the Rings, or Dr. Doolittle, who even found a way to talk to animals in Hugh Lofting’s famous book, they will search for an imaginary language—creating a space of communication, dialogue, and understanding with all the children and parents in the world. As words disappear, as they are lost and hidden, we become more sensitive to observation and to our sense of hearing that allows us to perceive the voices and sounds in our world—voices and sounds that reflect the music of the human soul. Inspired by a well-known children’s story, the performance will be a dialogue between the human voice, sounds, and live music.
Running time: approx. 60 minutes / Age 6 and older
