La Femme fendue for Voice and Violin
On a text by Lancelot Hamelin (German translation: Marcus Coelen)
First performed in September 2018 in Paris as part of the Boulez Biennale, La Femme fendue by composer Benjamin Attahir and writer Lancelot Hamelin was conceived in response to Pierre Boulez’s Dialogue de l’ombre double: inspired by its dialogue between a clarinet and its own “shadow,” Attahir and Hamelin create a semi-staged dialogue-monologue between a woman—performed by actress Martina Gedeck—and a man—represented by Renaud Capuçon’s violin— about the past, the unresolved, and the ineffable, on different levels of communication.
