Tabea Zimmermann presents a fascinating selection of 20th-century music for viola: in addition to Ligeti’s groundbreaking Sonata for Solo Viola and Berio’s Naturale, the program also includes works by George Benjamin and György Ligeti as well as Frank Bridge’s late-Romantic Lament, written in 1912. Zimmermann is joined by her former student Adrien La Marca, alto Gerhild Romberger, and percussionist Ni Fan. For Hindemith’s Des Todes Tod, the ensemble is completed by two students of the Barenboim-Said Akademie.
