In many compositions of the Baroque era—whether in opera, oratorio, or instrumental music—birdsong plays an important role. Reason enough for recorder virtuoso Stefan Temmingh, soprano Dorothee Mields, and the Capricornus Consort Basel to dedicate an entire concert program to this subject. In addition to arias by Handel and concertos by Vivaldi and William Babell, audiences will also encounter Telemann’s “Funeral Music for an Artistically Inclined Canary.”
