String Quartet No. 1 in D minor Op. 7
String quartets of the First and Second Viennese Schools are at the center of the program presented by the Tetzlaff Quartett, which returns to the Pierre Boulez Saal for the first time in several years. The ensemble, with siblings Christian and Tanja Tetzlaff on violin and cello, combines Haydn’s 1772 Quartet in F minor with Alban Berg’s Opus 3, written while the composer was finishing his studies with Arnold Schoenberg in 1910. Schoenberg’s own First String Quartet of 1904–5 concludes the program.
Approximate running time: 1h 45m with one intermission
