To open the Schubert Week, curator Thomas Hampson welcomed noted writer Dr. Friedrich Dieckmann for a conversation about Schubert and his time, hosted by dramaturg and journalist Susanne Stähr. A member of Berlin’s Akademie der Künste, Dieckmann has published books on Schubert, Schiller, Wagner, and Brecht as well as essays on the process of German reunification.

For the third consecutive year, Thomas Hampson invited renowned lied singers and the most promising talents of the younger generation, together with their piano partners, to dedicate an entire week to the world of the Schubert lied—even in these challenging times.

The opening talk was streamed live on Monday, January 18, at 8 pm and will remain available for free on-demand viewing through April 30, 2021.
