Piano Trio No. 2 in E-flat major D 929
The Trio Gaspard—whose members hail from Germany, Greece, and the UK—contrasts two masterpieces of the Classic and Romantic era with a rarely heard score by 20th-century German composer Bernd Alois Zimmermann: Haydn’s and Schubert’s beloved works frame Zimmermann’s Ballet blanc in five scenes, an imaginary ballet for piano trio inspired by literary figures from Don Quixote to Molly Bloom.
