Friends and colleagues for more than seven decades, Daniel Barenboim and Martha Argerich reunite for a program of two repertoire classics, joined by the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in its annual open-air concert at the Waldbühne Berlin. Argerich is the soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1, one of the composer’s most beloved early works. In the concert’s second half, Maestro Barenboim leads the cheerful and lyrical Second Symphony by Johannes Brahms, whose oeuvre is rooted in the tradition embodied by the music of Beethoven.
