Jörg Widmann has said that for the last few years, he has found a new musical home on Französische Strasse. Born in Munich in 1973, the artist has been closely associated with both the Pierre Boulez Saal and the Barenboim-Said Akademie from the very beginning, as clarinetist, conductor, and Edward W. Said Professor of Composition.
The 2024–25 season continues the focus on Widmann that we began last year. The Juilliard String Quartet and the Leonkoro Quartet will present the final works in the composer’s second cycle of string quartets, which is inspired by his exploration of Ludwig van Beethoven’s late quartets. Baritone Christian Immler and his piano partner Andreas Frese introduce Widmann’s only song cycle Das heisse Herz to Pierre Boulez Saal audiences. And Jörg Widmann himself will take the stage performing opposite the Hagen Quartett and in a trio with Sir András Schiff and Antoine Tamestit.
