Violin and Musical Direction
Founded in 1975, the Australian Chamber Orchestra is renowned not only for its innovative programming, which combines familiar and unexpected soundscapes, but also for its dedication to music from Australia and the commissioning of new works. The ensemble makes its Pierre Boulez Saal debut presenting two different concerts on consecutive nights. In addition to works by Bartók and Tchaikovsky as well as music by Polish composer Wojciech Kilar, the first program offers a thrilling juxtaposition of Australian Brett Dean’s musical epitaph for Carlo Gesualdo with one of the Renaissance master’s own madrigals, heard in an adaptation for strings.
