Violin
Yehudi Menuhin, dedicatee of Bartók’s late Sonata for Solo Violin, compared its opening movement to a free translation of the famous Chaconne from Bach’s D-minor Partita into a Hungarian idiom—and considered the sonata the most important work for solo violin written since Bach. In his program, Christian Tetzlaff brings the two composers face to face.
We are pleased to now present this recital, which had to be cancelled in June 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The concert with Christian Tetzlaff and Leif Ove Andsnes, originally announced for this date, will take place in September 2021.
